Good thing i have vacation time
More poker babble.

Saturday night, i won another World Series of Poker preliminary event satellite. This one gives me a $1500 that i can apply to the WSoP event of my choice plus $500 cash for expenses.

What was especially cool (to me) is that i opened a Full Tilt Poker account specifically because they were the only casino i knew that had Limit qualifying tourneys. Saturday was the first Limit satellite that they held since i joined and i won it. Put up $26 and defeated 106 other players to claim the one seat, neatly justifying my reasons for opening the account in the first place. As an unexpected bonus, i've been unsustainably profitable in their regular cash ring games after almost 40 hours of play.

Anyway, i now have to decide what i'm going to use my extra entry on. Right now, i'm most likely to enter the $1.5K Limit Event from 6/29 to 7/1. I can then enter an Orleans Open Limit Event on July 2-3; possibly go to Los Angeles to visit Ms. [info]punkalicia for a BBQ wedding celebration on the 4th; get back in time for the other $1.5K Limit Event on the 6th to 8th; and finally putz around until flying back on July 11. There's a slight possibility i might weasel another $1.5K entry out of Full Tilt, in which case i'd probably apply both towards the $3K Limit July 15-17.

I think i'm 0-for-7 trying to qualify for the WSoP Main Event, with three 6th place finishes. I'm not sure that this is the wisest investment, but entering the Main Event at least opens the possibility of a life-changing payoff.

FYI, i'm again going to reserve a room with 2 queen beds, so if anyone (i like) wants a free place to sleep in Vegas while i'm there, lemme know.

In other news, i had no trouble sleeping after my win on Saturday night, so i felt less like a dork than last time.

Should you happen to bump into me on Full Tilt (I mostly play NL10 and NL25), say hi and go easy on me, wudja? I've mostly stopped playing tournaments, even though I think I'm better at them -- I just don't have the bankroll for that kind of variance.

Good luck at the Series!

Sit & Go variance isn't too high, if you wanted to do that...

I missed your post about playing poker, as i only was only rarely checking LJ that month. I don't do NL ring games as it'd require paying more attention than i'd care to give it. I stick to full-table limit (between $5/$10 and $10/$20) as i only rarely need to take note that an opponent is extremely insane or, less often, very solid. Besides, i'd feel somewhat guilty taking your money.

Anyway, i assume your Full Tilt name is also starchy? I might stop by to heckle sometime.

Good luck on your health!

Thanks, and yeah, I'm starchy there too. Tagalag on 2p2, but so far I only lurk.

I have no trouble paying just enough attention in NL ring games, so I usually two-table those or play one table while doing other things. I found that didn't work so well with SNGs; either I'd do well and get down to heads up on both tables at the same time, or I'd single-table and get bored. For some reason I don't have that problem with MTTs, but again the variance was getting me down (as was explaining to my girl that being down $100 for the month didn't mean I was a bad player with a gambling addiction).

For whatever reason, I just can't get into limit hold 'em, although I do play limit stud now and then. Maybe it's just the sheer insanity of micro-limit play that kept me from appreciating it.

Micro-limit ring play *is* boring, but incredibly easy. Just wait for a great (multi-way) hand.

When two tabling SnGs, i'd stagger the start of my two tables. That way, i can concentrate on the short-handed table, while folding away 85-90% of my hands in the first 3 levels of my other one. This is especially easy for Limit SnGs, because i play the first 3 levels very mechanically and a wrong decision isn't going to cost me my entire stack.

The other option is to play in a ring game with along with the SnG. For example, i might start a SnG and two ring games at the same time. Once i hit Level 4 on the SnG, i'll leave one of the ring games.

However, right now i should just concentrate on Full Tilt and BoDog $5/$10 games, because i've been winning a much higher hourly rate there than possible with Limit SnGs. I probably should be careful not to overdo it, since they might eventually take notice that i play differently than the average Full Tilt player and make adjustments.

Both good suggestions I might give a shot sometime this week. Need to mix things up a little bit now and then, after all.

BoDog sounds pretty ripe these days. Too bad I'm on a mac, and therefore stuck with little besides FT and pokerroom sites. I'm sure I could be doing better elsewhere, but not better enough to justify buying a PC just for poker. Ah, well.

Well, I decided to give .25/.50 another shot. It wasn't doing it for me. Tried two-tabling: better, but I was still getting bored and therefore too creative for my own good. Tried four-tabling: bingo! Not only do I actually find it fun for the first time, but the whole game seems to click better for me, and my results after three hours are very, very encouraging (22bb/hr, or 5.5 per table). I'll see how I'm doing after another week or so, but if this keeps up I'll have to buy you dinner whichever year I first make it to the WSOP.

Just realized that's big bets, not blinds. I'm sure today's results were a fluke, but still pretty damn encouraging.

WORLD series eh? Does that mean you can pick an event in the Netherlands too?

No. World in this case means that people from The Netherlands are allowed to enter. Contrast this to Major League Baseball's World Series.

Sooo... when are you buying me some new minions?

Not until you learn to responsibly take care of the minions you already possess. If you're nice to me, i might entertain the idea of acquiring some "pre-owned" minions for you upon whom to practice.

You are pretty bad-ass. And I'm not just saying that. I couldn't do any of what you're doing and I am impressed.

I assume you managed to watch "Behind the Music: Pantera?"

Thanks. You're pretty bad-ass yourself. I can't play bass or any other musical instrument with any ability whatsoever.

I'm just lucky enough that a hobby i enjoy and have a natural affinity for pays pretty well.

In other news, i *am* bad-ass to notice today's date. Any special plans to wreck havoc on the populace in order to celebrate the day in the appropriate manner?

I did watch the Behind the Music. Thank you for calling my attention to it.

The music-playing thing is now more of a sad hobby, kind of like if you stopped playing for money and started counting cards in a deck over and over.

So many people have asked me today whether I have plans I feel like I'm doing something wrong for having to answer "nothing". If no one had called or mentioned anything to me I wouldn't have even noticed anything different about today.
